The Pittsburgh Steelers might be forcing the Cincinnati Bengals to reconsider Joe Burrow’s expedited return after their win on Sunday. The Bengals’ loss puts their playoff hopes at just one percent. As good as Burrow is, he can’t play defense, and Cincinnati would basically have to win out to make any waves in the playoff picture.
So surely the Steelers, who already lead the AFC North, would see a bump in their chances to make the playoffs, right? Wrong.
The Cleveland Browns couldn’t hold off the Baltimore Ravens, who have now won four in a row, and are heavy favorites to not only make the playoffs but also win the division.
Steelers Remaining Schedule
- Week 12: @ Bears
- Week 13: Bills
- Week 14: @ Ravens
- Week 15: Dolphins
- Week 16: @ Lions
- Week 17: @ Browns
- Week 18: Ravens
Steelers’ playoff chances remain the same at 39 percent despite win over Bengals
Last week saw the Steelers drop to a 39 percent chance to make the playoffs following the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, but this week’s win over the Bengals didn’t do much for the NFL prediction model, as Pittsburgh’s chances remain the same.
As for the Ravens? They have a 77 percent chance despite being the 10th seed in the AFC. That is largely due to the two teams’ remaining schedules. As listed above, the Steelers are about to embark on a three-week battle. The NFC North-leading Chicago Bears will host the Steelers before Pittsburgh takes on reigning MVP Josh Allen.
Then, it’s the first of two contests with the Ravens. Oh, and there is a chance all of those games, but surely the Bears one, won’t feature starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It’s looking like the Mason Rudolph show in Pittsburgh.
So the next month will be crucial for Pittsburgh. If the Steelers leave that four-game stretch any worse than 2-2 and 8-6 overall, it will be hard to see a world where they make the playoffs. But per usual, the Steelers are always good for a surprise or two, and that could be the case down the last seven weeks of the season.
