The Colts need to listen to this veteran player or they just might lose a young player who is approaching stardom.

The Indianapolis Colts are 8-2 and have a lot of great possibilities left in front of them this season. Once the offseason arrives, though, they will have some tough decisions to make with multiple notable free agents balling out on the final year of their contracts.

One of which is WR Alec Pierce, who reportedly could cash in on a $20 million a year deal this offseason. I’ve shared in the past why I think the Colts must re-sign Pierce. If you didn’t agree with me, maybe you’ll agree with Colts star WR Michael Pittman Jr., who made his opinion on the matter known this week.

Michael Pittman Jr. thinks the Colts need to pay Alec Pierce now

Pittman Jr. has been a fan favorite and locker room leader for multiple seasons. Over the years, it’s been evident that Pittman feels the need to take younger WRs under his wing. He, Pierce, and Josh Downs seem to have a close bond. So it shouldn’t be surprising that they don’t want to be separated.

“If we don’t sign him quickly, the price just keeps going up,” said Pittman. He’s absolutely right; Pierce has developed into not only one of the best deep threats in the NFL, but he’s arguably the most talented WR on the Colts’ roster. His route tree has grown tremendously, and he has some of the most reliable hands you’ll see across the league.

If the Colts let him hit the open market, a long line of teams will form to try to steal him away. Do the Colts want to watch Pierce blossom into a star elsewhere, or do they want him to do that in Indy? At this point, I don’t think it’s a question of whether he takes the leap into stardom, but when.
