The Texas A&M Aggies are 10-o and on the verge of their first ever appearance in the College Football Playoff. If they sink the Texas Longhorns next weekend, they clinch a spot in the SEC Championship game and earn the chance to win their first conference championship since winning the Big 12 back in 1998.

They are reaching these achievements thanks to the elite play from quarterback Marcel Reed, who has delivered big plays time and time again for the Aggies, and has planted himself firmly in the discussion for the Heisman Trophy race. He has a strong case to win the award, especially if the Aggies run the table, and fans are already behind his Heisman push.

However, it isn’t just fans who are all aboard Reed’s Heisman train. Former Aggies legend and Heisman Trophy winner himself, quarterback Johnny Manziel, made waves this week when he decided to put his money where his mouth to back Reed’s play.

Johnny Manziel banking on Marcel Reed’s Heisman Trophy season

Manziel’s high-flying escapades won him the Heisman Trophy in 2012, when he became the first freshman to ever win the award. Now, he’s hoping that Reed can become just the third Heisman Trophy winner in Texas A&M history, joining himself and running back John David Crow.

Reed is more than deserving of it. He is the engine of the entire Aggies’ offense that averages 37.1 points per game. He’s fourth in the Power 4 in points responsible for and seventh in total yards, and it’s his elite play that has kept A&M undefeated thus far in 2025. A&M is the best offense in the SEC, and he is the key behind it all.

If A&M wins out, including a win in the SEC Championship, Reed should easily be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. Depending on how the season goes, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if he does end up “striking the pose” when it’s all said and done, making Manziel’s investment a sound one.
