The Tennessee Vols have a legitimate chance to land what appears to be a Hall of Fame talent.

Tennessee is one of the biggest threats to land 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, a native of Canada who attends Baylor School in Chattanooga.

On Friday night, in a 56-35 win over McCallie in the state playoffs, Gabriel Georges showed why he’s one of the most coveted recruits in the nation with a monster performance that was reminiscent of the kind of games Derrick Henry used to have in high school.

The five-star running back rushed for 431 yards and seven touchdowns on 32 carries.

In the state playoffs. Insane.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Gabriel Georges possesses Hall of Fame talent. That’s not a prediction for his career; a lot has to go right to even be in that conversation down the road, but he appears to have that level of talent.

Gabriel Georges, 6-foot, 205 pounds, is rated as the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee and the No. 14 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.

Where does Tennessee stand in David Gabriel Georges’ recruitment?

Unsurprisingly, nearly every program in the nation would love to have Gabriel Georges on their roster.

But only a few programs have a legitimate chance to win this recruiting battle.

Tennessee is one of those programs, but it’s facing some stiff competition — Ohio State and Georgia are firmly in the mix.

Gabriel Georges has visited Tennessee twice this season, making the trip to Knoxville for the Vols’ win over Arkansas in October and their loss to Oklahoma earlier this month.

After the visit to UT for the Oklahoma game, VolQuest’s Austin Price suggested during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will that Tennessee has the momentum right now for Gabriel Georges.

“Ohio State and Georgia are the other two teams (in the mix for Gabriel Georges),” said Price. “Tennessee is, to me, the team to beat right now. They have the most momentum as we head off into the high school playoffs. I don’t think he’ll take another visit this year. I think the likelihood is [that] he’s done.

“Tennessee’s got a lot of momentum there. They’ll just have to keep the momentum. That thing will drag into next year — like 90 percent of the recruitments will. And so you just have to keep the momentum. But currently, right now, they have a lot of momentum. And having Gabe Osenda and having Jamyan Theodore, two of his teammates, committed here, that’s huge for Tennessee. Because he is very relationship-based, and he’s very tight with those kids.”

This recruiting battle still has a long way to go, so it’s far too early to predict where Gabriel Georges will land.

Tennessee needs to find a way, though, to land the five-star recruit. Gabriel Georges is the type of talent that can carry a team during a deep College Football Playoff run. Transcendent talents don’t come around often — this is the Vols’ chance to land the next Derrick Henry/Saquon Barkley type of player. They can’t afford to let this opportunity slip away.

Gabriel Georges is planning to announce his commitment next summer.
