The NCAA transfer portal doesn’t officially open until January 2, but plenty of movement is already happening.

Numerous players have already announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal, and lots more are expected to before January 2.

247Sports says the “most talented player in the transfer portal” is former Tennessee Vols defensive back Boo Carter

One player that’s expected to have plenty of suitors is former Tennessee Vols defensive back Boo Carter.

Carter, a former four-star recruit from Chattanooga, was dismissed from the Tennessee program earlier this month. The sophomore defensive back entered the season on shaky ground with Tennessee. He was dismissed from the team after he failed to show up for the Vols’ homecoming game against New Mexico State.

247Sports has Carter currently rated as the No. 1 overall player in the transfer portal (that’s subject to change as more players enter the portal).

“Tennessee dismissed sophomore defensive back Boo Carter earlier this month, with head coach Josh Heupel pointing to locker-room issues as the primary reason,” wrote 247Sports’ Grant Hughes. “Carter instantly becomes the most talented player in the transfer portal — and is likely to stay among the highest-rated as more names surface — though his off-field concerns will scare some programs away.”

Carter finished his Tennessee career with 63 tackles, two sacks, one interceptions, and three forced fumbles.

There’s no doubt that Carter possesses NFL talent, but he’ll have to leave the locker room concerns behind if he’s going to reach his full potential as a player.

Given his talent, Carter should have plenty of suitors when the portal opens in January.
