The Alabama Crimson Tide is looking to end the season on a high note with a win over its rival, Auburn, in an Iron Bowl matchup with the season on the line.

There are already a lot of distractions going on around Alabama’s team, with multiple coaches being linked to head coaching jobs around the country. They avoided losing defensive coordinator Kane Wommack after not being selected by Arkansas, but they couldn’t stop one top assistant from leaving for a new opportunity.

Alabama will have to replace its co-offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach after JaMarcus Shephard was just announced as the new head coach at Oregon State, and his departure could be huge.

JaMarcus Shephard hired as head coach at Oregon State

Shephard has been one of the best wide receiver coaches in the league, and actually won the award for the best wide receiver coach in the country in 2023 while he was at Washington. He followed head coach Kale DeBoer over from Washington to Alabama and has been a critical part of the coaching staff. It was only a matter of time before someone took a chance on Shephard to be their head coach, and Oregon State is the team that’s landed one of the best in the country.

Shephard now has a massive opportunity in his first time being the head coach for a program, and he released his first statement after being hired.

“I’m honored to lead the Oregon State University football program and to join a community that cares so deeply about its student-athletes. We will build a culture rooted in toughness, integrity, and relentless effort, and I’m excited to get to work with our players, staff, and supporters to write the next great chapter of Beaver football.”

Alabama needs to replace a wide receiver coach and top recruiter

From players like Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan, Ryan Williams, and many others, Shephard has recruited and helped develop top talent in the country. He was also a big part of Germie Bernard transferring over to Alabama with him. Losing Shephard is a big loss to the current ream, but also for the future with his ability to recruit top talent.

With Williams coming back for another season, and recruits like Cederian Morgan coming in next season, they have to land a massive hire to keep talent around and contiue to recruit at a high level.
