Lane Kiffin is seemingly headed to the Bayou. According to all reports, he’s planning to take the head coaching job at LSU, and he has already considered how he wants to build his coaching staff as he exits Oxford. His decisions will place the Rebels in a tough spot as they enter postseason play, particularly in the College Football Playoff.

Lane Kiffin places pressure on offensive staff at Ole Miss to join him at LSU immediately

On3 has reported that Kiffin is expecting most of his offensive staff to leave Ole Miss to head to LSU alongside him. He told them that whoever is not on the plane to Baton Rouge today, they won’t have a guaranteed spot on the coaching staff.

That’s a tall ask from him, but he’s making it crystal clear that he is ready to start fresh with the Tigers immediately since he won’t be allowed to coach in the CFP for Ole Miss.

This is a bold move by Kiffin. He’s asking plenty of coaches to completely uproot their life at the drop of a hat in order to have a chance to coach alongside him with the Tigers. That being said, don’t be shocked if a bulk of them do follow him to LSU since their jobs would be on the chopping block with a new head coach at Ole Miss.

According to Chris Low, Rebels defensive coordinator Pete Golding is expected to be named interim head coach at Ole Miss. He would lead the team in the CFP and could land the long-term position for the Rebels.

“Defensive coordinator Pete Golding is expected to remain at Ole Miss and will coach the Rebels in the playoff. Golding could also be a candidate to replace Kiffin as Ole Miss’ head coach.” — Chris Low

Addiotnally, the current expectation is that Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. will follow Lane Kiffin to LSU’s staff. That would mean he won’t be with the Rebels coaching staff during the CFP.
