Lane Kiffin has an ace in the hole to rebuild the LSU Tiger roster to National Title caliber in a hurry after spurning Ole Miss
This LSU roster will look very different quickly under HC Lane Kiffin.
With the LSU Tigers landing former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, this is a program that has a chance to build quickly to a National Championship level if they do it correctly. While high school recruiting and pulling big names from the Transfer Portal will be an immediate topic of conversation, Kiffin has an ace in the hole that he can use to quickly rebuild the program. He just left a very talented 11-1 Rebel roster that has several players who could be key targets for their former head coach.
While there might be some hurt feelings on the Ole Miss side, that frustration will eventually subside. It will be interesting to see how many players choose to stick with new Rebels head coach Pete Golding or explore other opportunities out there. Here are several players that LSU could eye if they do choose to enter the Transfer Portal.
Ole Miss targets for LSU
QB Trinidad Chambliss (Sr.)
While Chambliss technically is out of eligibility, he is fighting with the NCAA for one more season. If he is granted it, you would have to think that Kiffin would be interested in bringing him to Baton Rouge. The former Ferris State star brings a dual threat element that really took the Rebels’ offense to a whole other level.
RB Kewan Lacy (So.)
After spending his freshman season with Missouri, Lacy has developed into a star with the Rebels this season, rushing for 1,279 yards and 20 touchdowns. Even though LSU already has Harlem Berry and Caden Durham in-house, I’d find it hard to believe they wouldn’t welcome Lacy if he wanted to come.
WR Cayden Lee (Jr.)
The 5-11, 180-pound pass catcher brings speed and experience to the table, and that knowledge of the Kiffin offense could go a long way in the transition. During the last two seasons, Lee has managed 90 receptions for 1,411 yards and five touchdowns. Lee would be a welcome addition to a wide receiver group set to lose a lot of talent.
WR Deuce Alexander (So.)
After beginning his career at Wake Forest, Alexander has become an important member of the Rebel passing game this season. Doing some nice work after the catch, the 6-0, 180-pound wide receiver has been able to make 34 receptions for 577 yards and two touchdowns. Like Lee, Alexander brings needed speed to the table.
OT Diego Pounds (Jr.)
At 6-6 and 340 pounds, Pounds is a massive and talented offensive tackle who has played a lot of football between stops at Ole Miss and North Carolina. While he is still technically a mess, he adds much-needed depth to an offensive line that needs it. He would, at worst, bring a solid floor that this group sorely needs.
EDGE Kam Franklin (So.)
Franklin is a former top recruit, and he is beginning to show it on the field this season for the Rebels. At 6-5 and 290 pounds, Franklin has done most of his work coming off the edge. His size also provides some upside to play on the interior, bringing versatility and playmaking upside.
DT Will Echoles (So.)
Echoles is an imposing presence on the interior at 6-3 and 310 pounds. Like Franklin, he is a 2024 recruit who is showcasing just how good he can be so far this season. The demand will be high for Echoles in the portal, but Kiffin and crew should have the inside track to luring him away from the Rebels.
