Brent Venables didn’t hold back in the best way possible when asked about one of his shiny new toys he’ll likely use for the 2026 season
Brent Venables and the Sooners may have gotten the best wide receiver in the country.
Brent Venables spent a ton of time on Wednesday spouting off about his new 24 players, who are set to come in 2026 with that class. They’re great players on paper; time will tell how they end up being on and off the field, but there’s one guy who most are sure will be a hit. 2026 four-star wide receiver Jayden Petit is a fan favorite.
Petit is also a staff favorite. The Sooners love what he can do with the ball in his hands and what he can do when he’s trying to get the ball. Not to mention, Petit is just not your average wide receiver. As Venables said best on Wednesday during his National Signing Day press conference, Petit is a “Freakazoid.”
In other words, Petit is a freak of nature.
“Freakizoid out of Florida in Jayden Petit,” Venables told reporters. “Big, strong, athletic, amazing catch radius, and strength at the top of the route. He’s a kid who is quiet, has great confidence, and a strong work ethic. Comes from an amazing family.“
Sooners signee could help contribute in his freshman season, but it’s still so early
Petit has the kind of size at 6’4 “, 200 pounds that you really want in your SEC receivers. In fact, that’s a great size for a lot of NFL wide receivers. Petit looks the part, too, as he looks as strong as an ox. The Sooners were able to get Petit after he decommitted from Wisconsin, and he’s their fourth 2026 wide receiver.
We can only assume that if all goes well, Petit should see the field next season. Of course, we still have to wait and see which receivers stay, which leave, which go to the NFL, and who else they bring in through the transfer portal. However, how it’s currently constructed, Petit could be called on early in his career.
The wide receivers the Sooners are bringing in are pretty dang good. Petit, as we said, seems to be a fan favorite, but there are two other four-star players, too. Daniel Odom and Jahsiear Rogers are four-stars who also have great size and athleticism for what they will be asked to do. Then, of course, there is Xavier “ZiZi” Okwufulueze, another 6’4, 200-pound receiver with a huge catch radius.
The Sooners put together a pretty good class.
