Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall has done a fantastic job with his first recruiting class. On the first day of the early signing day, the Gators signed 15 of their commits, which is a very impressive feat, considering all of them committed to the program when Billy Napier was still the head coach.

They are still waiting on decisions from four players to make their decisions.

  • Four-star S Kaiden Hall
  • Four-star CB C.J. Hester
  • Four-star RB Carsyn Baker (decommitted)
  • Three-star TE Kekua Aumua

Carsyn Baker projected to commit to SEC rival

The one player of the 19 commits when Sumrall took the job that chose to decommit was Baker. Even though he made that choice a couple days after the hiring of Sumrall, the Gators were still in contention to land him. It’s worth noting as well that Baker has been taking visits to other schools ahead of early signing day, and those have come to fruition.

On Wednesday, Baker received predictions from Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons to commit to the Texas A&M Aggies.

Baker is currently the 16th-ranked running back in the class of 2026, and he thrived playing high school in Georgia, where he averaged nine yards per carry. He was the top running back priority for the Gators in this recruiting cycle, and now he’s projected to commit to the Aggies.

This puts the Gators’ running back room in a tough spot. Ja’Kobi Jackson could potentially get a medical redshirt after only playing in the first four games of the season. If he’s not granted the medical redshirt, the running back room is a little scarce. Jadan Baugh is the star of the group, and redshirt freshman KD Daniels did a good job with both Treyaun Webb and Duke Clark missing multiple games with injuries. Plus, there is true freshman Byron Louis, who registered two carries against the Kentucky Wildcats.

It’s not a group in dire need of adding talent, but it could get a little bit rough if players end up hitting the transfer portal. Having Baker would be a really nice addition to the running back room that is relatively scarce if Baugh were to leave in the transfer portal.

Thursday afternoon will tell us what Baker is going to do, and it’s likely not going to be a trip to Gainesville.
