Chiefs can’t escape some of the worst luck possible vs. the Houston Texans, and the timing couldn’t be worse
The Chiefs just cannot escape the bad injury luck after Trent McDuffie gets banged up.
After all of the good luck the Kansas City Chiefs had last season, it’s finally run out. Well, it’s been out, as the Chiefs are 6-6 playing the Houston Texans. Now, they are staring down an uphill battle as they start their game against the Texans with an injury to Wanya Morris. Shortly after that, cornerback Trent McDuffie gets injured.
Morris was playing as the third offensive tackle the Chiefs had, after Josh Simmons and Jawaan Taylor had both been out. Now, Esa Pole takes over for Morris. Then, McDuffie injures his knee on a deep ball. He immediately lay on the ground on his back for a bit after the play.
He was then helped off the field. McDuffie spent the next two defensive possessions on the sideline, whether running up and down the sideline or riding the stationary bike. McDuffie was listed as questionable, as the trainers tried to test the flexibility and bend of his knee on the training table.
The Chiefs roll with rookie CB Noel Williams while McDuffie is out
Your best cornerback, and maybe your best player, is the second-to-last person on that side of the ball that Kansas City needed getting hurt. Luckily, the Chiefs have a young cornerback who’s pretty good; he just hasn’t been given enough chances.
The Chiefs drafted Williams this offseason. When he’s played, he’s been really good. Of course, he’s had rookie moments, as all rookies do. However, Williams has made some really impressive plays when he gets on the field. He even made one on Nico Collins, an elite receiver, as soon as he came into the game.
Kansas City will have to trust Williams, a rookie CB, on Collins all night long. Regardless, it’s bound to be a long night with the type of luck the Chiefs are getting injury-wise. It doesn’t help that the officiating is off to a bad start, too.
