When news officially broke that Lane Kiffin had decided to leave the Ole Miss Rebels to become the new head coach of the LSU Tigers, many assumed that Ed Orgeron would quickly join him in Baton Rouge.

Orgeron, who led LSU to a national championship in 2019, previously coached with Kiffin at USC and Tennessee. The former Tigers head coach is regarded as one of the best defensive line coaches and recruiters in college football.

But for now, it doesn’t sound like Orgeron will be joining Kiffin’s staff at LSU.

Orgeron joined Bussin with the Boys this week and he was asked if he’s going to follow Kiffin to LSU.

“He (Kiffin) had called and said, ‘What do you think about LSU?’” said Orgeron. “And I gave him nothing but great reviews. He never called me and said, ‘Hey, do you want to come (to LSU)?’ I never called him and said that I want to go.

“He knew I was planning on going back into coaching. Would LSU have been a good fit with him? Do I think so? Yes. But as a head coach, when you’re going into a situation like that, you gotta feel out the lay of the land. And you have to do what’s best for you. So he’s got his defensive staff. He hasn’t called me, which is good (no hard feelings). I wish him the best of luck.”

LSU is reportedly working to hire Syracuse’s Elijah Robinson as the program’s new defensive line coach.

The Tigers, however, are facing competition from Nebraska, which is also trying to hire Robinson.

If LSU isn’t able to hire Robinson, maybe Kiffin calls up Orgeron.

It would certainly be fun to see Coach O on the sidelines in Tiger Stadium again.
