The Tennessee Vols could have a true freshman making some big-time noise in 2026.

One of the Vols’ top 2026 signees is five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys.

Keys, 6-foot-3/185 pounds from Hattiesburg, MS, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 10 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

The Mississippi native signed with Tennessee over LSU, Ole Miss, and others.

National recruiting analyst says fans will be talking about Tristen Keys in a “major way” a year from now

On3’s Chad Simmons thinks Keys could make a big impact for the Vols as a true freshman in 2026.

“Keys is set to make an immediate impact in Knoxville, and he’s expected to contribute as a freshman,” wrote Simmons this week. “Wide receiver is one of the positions where true freshmen can see the field early, and Keys has the talent to be too good to keep off it. He’s already faced top-tier competition and shined on big stages, and by this time next year, he’ll be a name Tennessee coaches and fans are talking about in a major way. Expectations are high, and Keys has the ability to deliver.”

What will the Vols’ wide receiver rotation look like next season?

Tennessee is in a pretty good spot at wide receiver heading into the offseason — as long as no one of note transfers.

The Vols will likely lose Chris Brazzell to the 2026 NFL Draft after he went over 1,000 receiving yards in 2025.

Braylon Staley and Mike Matthews, however, are expected to return and serve as Tennessee’s top two wide receivers. The Vols also have several wide receivers that were true freshmen in 2025 — Travis Smith, Radarious Jackson, and Joakim Dodson — that are poised to play bigger roles in 2026.

Keys will have a chance to crack the rotation, but it won’t be easy. Smith, Jackson, and Dodson are all high upside players who have a year of experience in Heupel’s system under their belts.

It’s a nice “problem” for the Vols to have.
