San Francisco Giants legend and new member of the Baseball Hall of Fame Jeff Kent went viral this week after dropping some hilarious comments about former Tennessee Vols baseball coach Tony Vitello.

Vols fans likely remember seeing Jeff Kent on the broadcast during the 2024 College World Series — specifically anytime his son, Texas A&M infielder Kaeden Kent, came up to bat.

Tennessee beat Texas A&M in a best-of-three series to win the 2024 College World Series.

Jeff Kent hasn’t forgotten that Tony Vitello and the Vols ended his son’s season in 2024

Kent joined KNBR this week and he was asked for his opinion on Vitello, who was recently named as the new manager of the Giants.

The freshly minted Hall of Famer had plenty to say.

“I think Tony Vitello, he’s a son of a b—h,” said Kent. “He pisses me off. The reason why he pisses me off is because his team, Tennessee, beat my boy’s team, the Aggies, in game three of the College World Series. So I got it out for Tony.

“But he is awesome. I told Tony — I saw him yesterday in Orlando (at the MLB winter meetings) and gave him a hug. He’s a good dude, man. He’s a guy that I think is smart enough to know how to change and manipulate himself to get the best out of his players. And I saw (Bruce) Bochy was with Tony yesterday, too. I know Bochy’s got a lot in his brain to give to Tony. So if Tony’s an open book, which I know he will be — because Tony’s a smart dude — he’s going to know how to receive information from other guys and make it work for himself to get the best out of his players. Now, going from college ball, which he had total control of and love and passion for the game — I saw it so much so that I wanted my boy to play for him. But he’s got that in him, and I know he’s professional enough to work with these pro guys. Because there’s a little different mentality. You’ve got to deal with these guys day in and day out. That’s going to be a grind on Tony, and I don’t doubt that he’s up for it.”

Kent clearly has a lot of respect for Vitello — even though the Vols took down the Aggies in 2024.
