Could Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers be on the verge of making a blockbuster addition to the roster this offseason?

It’s probably a little too early to know, but it’s a possibility based on some college football news that broke on Monday morning.

LSU named as a team to watch for transfer quarterback DJ Lagway

Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway announced on Monday that he’s entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Kiffin immediately raised some eyebrows when he quickly retweeted the Lagway news.

Shortly after Kiffin’s retweet, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that LSU is an early school to watch for Lagway. Nakos also noted that Baylor and Miami are schools to watch for the former five-star recruit.

“Among the early schools to watch for Lagway will include Baylor, LSU and Miami, sources tell On3,” wrote Nakos.

“Miami and LSU were not the top schools to watch in his recruitment, but both are expected to be in the portal market this winter,” added Nakos.

Lagway wasn’t a player who was expected to be a transfer option for LSU, as numerous folks in the media thought he would stick around at Florida.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel noted that Lagway should have a “robust market.”

“The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Lagway should have a robust market for his services,” wrote Thamel. “His raw talent flashed enough to NFL personnel, where he was considered among the top prospects for the 2027 NFL draft in the wake of his freshman season. Sources told ESPN that Lagway is seeking a fresh start to harness his talent, much in the way quarterbacks such as Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels reshaped their careers after transferring from their original schools in recent years.”

LSU needs a quarterback, and DJ Lagway has a lot of untapped potential

Kiffin and the Tigers need a transfer quarterback. Lagway’s high upside and his two years of SEC experience could certainly make him an attractive option for LSU.

The Texas native struggled with consistency in Gainesville — Lagway threw 14 interceptions in 2025 — but the talent/size combo is undeniable.

Kiffin is one of the top quarterback gurus in college football. Landing at LSU would undoubtedly be a huge positive for Lagway’s development. But will LSU see him as its top option?

That’s the question that Kiffin has to answer over the next couple of weeks, before the NCAA transfer portal officially opens on Jan. 2.
