Colts saw a young player stolen from them by AFC contender at a position they are already thin at ahead of Week 16
An already thin position group just got worse with a young player being stolen by an AFC contender from right under the Colts’ noses.
The Indianapolis Colts are thin at a few positions this year, and it has hurt them time and time again. One of those spots is LB. After their starting duo of Zaire Franklin and Germaine Pratt, there doesn’t seem to be a third LB that they trust to play a significant defensive role.
Somehow, LB has gotta even thinner for the Colts. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Colts have lost LB Chad Muma off their practice squad to the New England Patriots. This marks the second LB lost off the Colts’ practice squad this week alone.
Colts lose LB Chad Muma off their practice squad to the Patriots
Muma spent the first three years of his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who selected him with a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He appeared in 50 games and recorded seven starts in his three years in Jacksonville. The Colts claimed Muma off waivers after the Jaguars waived him as part of their 53-man roster cuts.
Since joining the Colts, Muma has appeared in five games and has recorded five total tackles. Many were hoping Muma, who is still only 26, would address the team’s lack of depth at LB. He hasn’t cracked the lineup, though, and has spent the majority of the year on the practice squad.
Muma is the second LB to be signed off the Colts’ practice squad this week after the team also lost Anthony Walker Jr. They signed Walker ahead of the season to form a reunion with their 2017 fifth-round pick. His former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, signed him off the Colts’ practice squad, which probably means we will see the Colts add an LB to their practice squad in the near future.
