Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers have an interesting Transfer Portal decision ahead – could make or break his first season in Baton Rouge
The LSU short-term outlook is going to hinder on a very important Transfer Portal decision on the horizon.
The vibes around LSU football are very high right now with Lane Kiffin now leading the program. The former Ole Miss head coach certainly brings some swagger to the table, and he should be able to attract a good amount of talent to Baton Rouge. That is something that is going to be extremely important for the Tigers right now, filling a lot of holes on the roster when it opens up on January 2.
Quarterback is going to be an important topic of conversation with Garrett Nussmeier moving on to the NFL, and it should be. That decision could end up making or breaking the success the team sees in the 2026 college football season. There are going to be several impressive options on the table, but they need to find the best one.
LSU quarterback portal targets
There are four talented quarterbacks worth keeping an eye on for LSU right now. Two of them are not currently in the portal, but if they do enter, I expect the Tigers to have a lot of interest. This list will change as more players enter into the fold.
Sam Leavitt (Arizona State)
As of today, Leavitt feels like the most likely LSU quarterback target. The fit makes too much sense from both sides. Kiffin tends to love quarterbacks who can make things happen outside of structure and also utilize their feet, and Leavitt certainly brings that to the table. Leavitt is also an extremely volatile passer who needs things to be as simple as possible. That fits Kiffin’s style perfectly.
Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss)
As of today, it is uncertain whether Chambliss will be back in college football next season. He is currently appealing to get another season, but nobody knows if that will be granted. If the 6-1, 200-pound dual-threat quarterback does get another year, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him want to reunite with Kiffin. His ability as a run-pass threat makes him a very intriguing option.
Dj Lagway (Florida)
At 6-3 and 242 pounds, Lagway is a massive pocket quarterback with some high upside to work with. Unfortunately, injuries and inconsistencies have plagued him during his two seasons, and now Lagway desperately needs development. While Kiffin would be the ideal coach to get the most out of him, I find it hard to believe that the talented signal caller will be near the top of their list. He is more of a wildcard at this point.
Bryce Underwood (Michigan)
Underwood has made no indication that he will opt for the portal, but with everything that is happening with the Sherrone Moore situation, you have to at least believe that he is thinking about it. If he does, you can bet that LSU will have some interest. The 6-4, 228-pound passer is an outstanding talent who brings some insane upside to the table.
