NFL media’s biggest Chiefs expert predicts they’ll ruin the Titans’ quest for a top draft pick in Week 16
Nick Wright things the Chiefs will lose to who?!
The Tennessee Titans lost handily to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 15, falling 37-24. This kept them in the two-win club for the time being, alongside the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders. It’s a race to the bottom for the Titans for the second consecutive year, and if you’re rooting for the first overall pick belonging to Tennessee again, they need to lose their final three games.
The players and coaches have other plans, of course. And their final three opponents look a lot different today than they did even a month ago.
Titans-Chiefs is suddenly a winnable game for Tennessee
Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL in Week 15 against the Chargers, and the Chiefs were officially eliminated from the playoff hunt on a late Gardner Minshew interception that ended the game. For the first time in a full decade, the NFL postseason won’t feature the Kansas City Chiefs. And if you’re plugged-in to the NFL media landscape, you probably knew FS1’s Nick Wright would have something interesting to say about it.
Wright is a cohost of the debate show First Things First, and is the world’s most outspoken and annoying Chiefs fan. You either love him or hate him. I’m a pretty big fan of his bit, personally. Once you understand it, it’s fun. But whenever something happens with the Chiefs, he’s the voice many go looking to hear. For those who can’t stand him, it’s days like this Monday that are sweetest taste in the world. Hearing him have to eat crow on his precious Chiefs and admit defeat on the 2025 season is a rewarding experience.
Setting the dynamics and innerworkings of media personalities aside, Wright said something following this Chiefs loss that will make your ears perk up if you’re a Titans fan. On the topic of losing Mahomes for the rest of the year, he said this of their Week 16 trip to Nashville to face Cam Ward’s Titans:
“I’m searching for silver linings. I think the next few weeks are going to force the team to hold a mirror up to how much 15 (Patrick Mahomes) was holding together. Because I believe they are going to lose to the Tennessee Titans next week. I believe that with this offensive, I think the combination of the offensive line injuries, the deflation of we’ve played nothing but the biggest games imaginable, to now we’ve got meaningless games, to the drop off from Patrick to Minshew, like all of that will come together on the road in Tennessee, that’s a game they lose.”
Using inpredictable’s NFL betting market values, we were able to project the Chiefs as roughly 11 point favorites at Tennessee before Week 15 transpired. Now that they’ve lost another game, been eliminated from the playoffs, and lost their superstar QB, the actual line Vegas hung for Week 16 is 3.5. The Gardner Minshew-led Chiefs are still over a field goal favorite on the road, but that’s an aggressive swing!
If the Titans win a third game this weekend, they’re liable to fall from third all the way down to sixth in the draft order. With a beatable Saints team and a Jaguars team who could rest starters in Week 18 still on the schedule, this would open them up to drafting just about anywhere in the top-10 when the dust settles… except for where most fans want them to, at the very top. And while I wouldn’t say they’re likely to win against the Chiefs this weekend, it does seem a whole lot more likely today than it did before Week 15.
