It seems like everything this week, leading up to the game, has been primarily Alabama Crimson Tide players and coaches saying something about the Oklahoma Sooners. And yet, Oklahoma has really done nothing but talk about the game and give Bama the credit they rightfully deserve.

Head coach Brent Venables mentioned on his coaches show that he was upset when his team drew Bama again in the College Football Playoff because he’d rather play someone else. That doesn’t mean he’s scared of this matchup, but that he’s showing respect to Alabama. When you look at the other sideline, or who will be standing on it, per se, it’s not the same way.

Alabama players are already getting their excuses ready.

Alabama WR Germie Bernard talks playing in Oklahoma last season

“This time around, we know it’s going to be cold,” Bernard said earlier in the week. “Their lights, you know, they kind of got me last time. The lights are kind of in a weird position, I guess you can say that, and the field condition. I think our equipment staff has done a great job of putting us in the right cleats and whatnot, so that we won’t have that issue. Just from here, it’s playing football.”

That comes off as a reason as to why they lost in Oklahoma last season, one of the worst SEC teams in the conference. That doesn’t sound like he’s coming off in any way as someone who is recognizing that Oklahoma just beat them fair and square.

And since they are nice again playing in Oklahoma, these are likely the same excuses they will use. Guess what: Oklahoma has to look at the same lights, play on the same field, and go to Tuscaloosa to play against 100,000 screaming fans. It found a way to win on the road; you didn’t.

And, if we’re being honest, the Sooners have one of, if not the best, grounds crews there is, so the field condition really isn’t anything to cry about.

This is Alabama getting ready to say the same things if it loses on Friday night.
