Jim Harbaugh inadvertently adds insult to injury to the Dallas Cowboys’ 2025 season
Harbaugh’s comments on the Dallas Cowboys offense sting going into Week 16.
The Dallas Cowboys’ next opponent, the Los Angeles Chargers, could realistically clinch a playoff spot in Week 16. Meanwhile, by the time their games kick off, the Cowboys will likely be mathematically eliminated.
And yet, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh knows the Cowboys are a dangerous team. And his comments leading up to the matchup add insult to injury to their 2025 regular season.
Jim Harbaugh inadvertently rubs salt in Cowboys’ wounds
Fourteen games into the Chargers season, Harbaugh believes the Cowboys could be the best offense they have faced so far. And the fact that he is probably right makes the team’s playoff reality sting even more. After all, the 2025 Cowboys are wasting an offense with elite potential.
“I think it’s arguably the best offense we’ve played, and they present a lot of challenges,” Harbaugh told reporters earlier in the week. “They’re really good up front, have a really good quarterback, and really good receivers. It’s not just the two great ones you see—the other guys are rising to the occasion as well. The running game will be a challenge to stop too. The quarterback is elite, really good. So yeah, it’s a big challenge for us defensively.””
Currently, the Cowboys offense ranks sixth in EPA/play, per RBSDM. Four of the five teams above them would be in the playoffs if the season ended today, with the lone exception being the Indianapolis Colts, who lost starting quarterback Daniel Jones to a season-ending injury.
Simply put, a top-tier offense should make you a playoff contender. For multiple reasons—ranging from a terrible defense and poor pass blocking to a mediocre red zone offense—the Cowboys are wasting it.
Harbaugh dubs Dak Prescott ‘elite’
One of the biggest reasons why the Chargers head coach believes the Cowboys are such a dangerous offense is because of Dak Prescott, who he describes as elite.
“He’s just really, really good at everything,” Harbaugh said of Dak. “There’s an awareness that he has—vision, sense, feel. I mean, slippery, a playmaker, and all the arm talent that you’d ever want. There seems to be a sixth sense with him—his feel for the game, the way he sees the field, the way he sees football. It stands out.”
Cowboys to play starters vs Chargers
Harbaugh should be expecting the Cowboys offense to enter Sunday a full go as the team has publicly said the team is playing to win despite their playoff hopes being all but done. However, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and left tackle Tyler Guyton’s status could be in question as both have missed consecutive practices to start the week.
Guyton could miss his fourth consecutive game with an ankle injury while Lamb is dealing with an illness.
