Does Proposed ‘Crazy’ Maxx Crosby Trade Make Sense? Cowboys and Raiders writers break it down
The Las Vegas Raiders have a player everyone wants in Maxx Crosby, and he keeps being connected to the Dallas Cowboys.
Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby will probably continue to be linked to teams like the Dallas Cowboys until he is actually traded. And with this being the dead week before the season starts, you can bet that some blogs out there are going to throw together some pretty nasty trade scenarios.
The most recent one comes from Bleacher Report. They put together an article with a few trades they thought would make sense. And, of course, Crosby to the Cowboys was on there. Only, this trade really wasn’t that good. It kind of feels lazy. Maxx Crosby to the Dallas Cowboys for two first-round picks and Rashan Gary. There are so many things wrong with that trade.
Las Vegas Raiders probably wouldn’t do that trade, even though they should
There’s this feeling that the Raiders may trade Crosby. Sure, they did it once, so there is always a chance they do it again. However, there’s also a feeling that they won’t. Last time around, they only traded Crosby to honor his wish. He’s already an all-time great within the franchise. Honoring what he says while keeping everything as low-profile as it gets is exactly what he wanted.
Since the Raiders never wanted to trade him, and he doesn’t want to be traded now, I can’t see this trade happening. To be honest, the Cowboys would be slightly overpaying for Crosby. But, at the same time, a trade like that is worth it if you’re getting the absolute best version of Maxx Crosby. And the Raiders believe he’s only going to keep getting better. The guy played 15 games last year, dealt with injuries, and still had a career high in tackles for loss with 28.
If they were to accept a trade package, it would look like this one. However, I don’t see them accepting anything now. I think that ship has sailed for at least this season. So, what about the Cowboys’ side of this thing? A to Z Sports Dallas’ Mauricio Rodriguez broke down their side of it perfectly.
Dallas Cowboys definitely would not send a package like that for Maxx Crosby via trade
I don’t see the Cowboys doing this, and the biggest reason why is that we know their three trade offers from earlier in the offseason. The most the Cowboys offered for Crosby back in March was a first-round pick (2026 No. 12 overall) and a 2027 second-round pick. I don’t see how you can go from that to two first-rounders and EDGE Rashan Gary (who is on the leadership council after the Cowboys traded a fourth for him).
Keep in mind, the Baltimore Ravens backing out of the trade was a hit to the Raiders’ leverage. Ultimately, I don’t think a potential Crosby-to-Cowboys trade is dead yet. But if it happens, it will likely be closer to the deadline and for lesser compensation. The conversation would likely include a first-round pick, but I don’t think it would include two.
My guess? A 2027 first-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.
