The Ohio State Buckeyes have nine days until they’re back in action, this time in the College Football Playoff. It’ll be the Miami Hurricanes awaiting the Buckeyes in the quarterfinal matchup.

Ohio State will have almost four weeks in between its Big Ten Championship loss to the Indiana Hoosiers and playing the Canes on New Year’s Eve. When the Buckeyes do suit up against Miami, they’re expected to be without one starter.

Ryan Day confirms the availability of Tegra Tshabola against Miami

Ohio State will be without its starting right guard Tegra Tshabola against Miami, Day confirmed on Monday. It had been previously reported that the multi-year starter wouldn’t be playing in the first College Football Playoff game, but Day confirmed that. Tshabola is the one member of the offensive line that the Buckeyes have shuffled the deck at times this season, giving other players a look

“We’re going to take it as it goes, but he’ll probably be a little while, maybe at least a few weeks anyway,” Day stated

Ohio State feels good about its options to step up against Miami

Day said that the Buckeyes will go with a rotation of Josh Padilla and Gabe VanSickle against Miami, which was the expectation. VanSickle replaced Tshavola and played about half the game against Indiana. The expectation is that VanSickle will probably start and Padilla will be there for relief when needed.

“We feel confident with both of those guys in the game. They’ve shown some really good things, and Gabe did a good job. He went in there in some of these recent games.

“So that’s been good for us in terms of the depth. But that position is going to be important as we go into these playoffs, where Tegra has been in there most of the season. So this week of practice will be very important for those guys.”
