Chiefs rookie CB Nohl Williams is already showing an emotional maturity that most wouldn’t in his position
The Chiefs have a budding star in the waiting, if they’d just play him.
The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t have as good a 2025 NFL Draft as many initially thought. Then again, it’s impossible to grade the class when they’re not seeing the field. One of the biggest gripes about the Chiefs this year is that, even when they’re eliminated from the playoffs, they still don’t play the young guys.
KC is just now getting to where they’re playing rookie cornerback Nohl Williams. He played every defensive snap on Thursday, but before that, it was hard to find him on the field, at least not as often as he should have been. Has Williams had his rookie moments? Yes. However, it’s hard to learn from those when he’s not playing.
Yet, Williams understands that he’s a rookie, and he can’t really complain, or even look like he’s upset or frustrated. After the game against the Denver Broncos, Williams demonstrated great emotional maturity. There are a lot of players who would have shown how frustrating this season has been, and he didn’t.
“They develop good players here, I’m learning every day, and I just have to keep earning my trust with the coaching staff,” Williams told reporters in the locker room.
Williams can be a star in this league
Not only is he mature, but he also understands how the business of the NFL works, and he’s very good at what he does. As we’ve already mentioned, he has had some blown coverages in rookie moments. However, the good he has done has well made up for that.
According to Pro Football Focus, Williams was the highest graded player on the Chiefs on Thursday, among all players who played at least 20 snaps. Williams finished with an 82.5 grade, ahead of safety Bryan Cook.
Per Sports Info Solutions, Williams has actually been targeted the third-most in man coverage on the team, with seven targets in 21 man coverage snaps. Williams has only allowed two catches while in man, for a total of ten receiving yards. SIS also has Williams with no defensive penalties while in man.
You can watch the games and see that Williams is great and has the potential to be a star. One of the most important components of that is that he has the maturity, too.
