Alabama running back Jam Miller drops a line that should have fans feeling good about a major weakness ahead of the Rose Bowl
Jam Miller gives Alabama fans a major reason to be optimistic ahead of the Rose Bowl.
The Alabama Crimson Tide’s offense in their last two games has had one thing in common: the inability to run the football. Now that has been a problem for much of the year, but there was some flashes at the end of the regular season.
Jam Miller was starting to pick up steam, and he was on pace for the best game of his season against the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl. But then came a second-half injury that saw him leave on crutches, miss the SEC Championship, and be put on a pitch count against Oklahoma in round one of the CFP. Well, if you listen to him, that won’t be the case against Indiana.
Jam Miller is expected to be 100 percent against Indiana
“Oh, you know, I’m good now, healthy,” said Miller via the Alabama Crimson Tide YouTube Channel. “We got a great training staff here, you know. So I did a lot of training, you know, just get my body ready, you know, just get ready, prepare.”
The one thing Alabama can’t afford to be offensively against Indiana is one-dimensional. The Hoosiers execute at an elite level. They will not let up easy plays and give Alabama a ton of opportunities to score. Meaning, if Alabama just sits back and makes it a drop-back passing game, Indiana will tee off.
So, having Miller back at full strength will be invaluable to the offense. The team’s only loss this season when he’s played came against Oklahoma on homecoming. He’s the lone explosive play threat in that backfield.
Why Jam Miller is so important to Alabama’s offense
Daniel Hill is a north-south-brusier and AK Dear is a pass-catching back. Miller has the agility and lateral quickness to take wide zone running plays, find a crease, and get vertical for the score. Not to mention, when you have a reliable run game, the pressure that will already be placed on the shoulders of Ty Simpson can be lessened.
So for Alabama, a healthy Miller cannot be overstated. How the Crimson Tide starts in this game could be the determinant in the outcome. Alabama can ill-afford to get into a 17-point hole the way it did against Oklahoma.
Staying on schedule starts with running the ball.
