The Seattle Seahawks went into the half against the Carolina Panthers tied with a much inferior team. They finished the game, showing that the first half was more of a fluke than anything else. Not to mention, the Seahawks just made adjustments better than the Panthers did. In fact, they caught Carolina off guard.

Seahawks’ defense surprises Panthers’ offense

“I think it (amount of man coverage Seattle played) just caught us by surprise,” Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan told reporters in the locker room after losing to the Seahawks at home. “Obviously, it puts more pressure on the quarterback, because they get back way faster, but at the same time it’s our job as receivers to get open and to create a clear picture for Bryce (Young), and I feel like we didn’t do that.”

Yes, the Seahawks called the game right on defense. However, let’s give the players a ton of respect for executing it. The Seahawks played a ton of man defense, but the players still had to play sticky coverage. It’s easy to get beaten in man coverage with just the smallest of mistakes, but Seattle had a blanket on Carolina’s receivers.

Panthers quarterback Bryce Young completed 14 of 24 passes for 54 yards and an interception. He’s a much better quarterback than he showed on Sunday at home. However, the Seahawks shut him down, as he averaged just 1.1 air yards per attempt, his second-lowest mark in his career, per Next Gen Stats.

Anytime Young passed the ball under 10 air yards, he completed 14 of 18 attempts for 54 yards, with three of them being throwaways. When targeting receivers more than 10 air yards downfield, Young went 0/3 with an interception. Seattle had everything locked up, and the more impressive part is that they did it with as much man coverage as they did.

Seattle’s defense is massively underrated and good enough to win a Super Bowl.
