The Tennessee Vols are reportedly losing a former four-star recruit to the NCAA transfer portal.
CBS Sports college football insider Chris Hummer reported on Wednesday that Vols redshirt freshman offensive lineman Max Anderson is planning to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2.
Anderson, 6-foot-5/311 pounds from Frisco, TX, played in two games as a true freshman in 2024. He played in all 13 games in 2025, with most of his action coming on special teams.
Max Anderson signed with Tennessee as a 4-star recruit during the 2024 cycle
Anderson signed with the Volunteers during the 2024 recruiting cycle. He was rated by 247Sports as the No. 16 interior offensive lineman in the nation and the No. 42 player in the state of Texas.
The Texas native signed with Tennessee over offers from Alabama and Oklahoma, among others.
Anderson was viewed as a potential backup option at the center position for the Vols entering the 2025 season (he took reps at center during practice as a true freshman), but he was never able to crack the rotation.
SMU could be a school to watch for Anderson.
Nate Anderson, Max’s older brother, finished his career at SMU after spending time at Oklahoma.
