Tyrone Tracy accomplished a rare feat only a handful of Giants players have achieved in the Week 18 win over the Cowboys
Tyrone Tracy accomplished something not many Giants players have been able to achieve
The New York Giants finished their rough 2025 season with a confident win over the Dallas Cowboys, 34-17.
The Giants’ offense had one of its best days of the year, thanks in part to second-year running back Tryone Tracy. He finished the game with 159 total yards of offense, accomplishing a rare milestone in the history of the franchise.
With a stellar game, he is now just the third player in Giants history to have 1,000-plus scrimmage yards in each of their first two seasons in the NFL. The last player to do so was Saquon Barkley.
Tryone Tracy finishes season on a high note
Tracy’s 2025 season started in a highly disappointing fashion. An early injury kept him out of two games and ultimately relegated him to the second running back role behind rookie Cam Skattebo. Before suffering an injury against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3, he had zero touchdowns and did not surpass 30 yards rushing.
After Skattebo went down with a season-ending injury, Tracy took full advantage of the additional touches. He capped off the year with three 100-plus yard scrimmage days and a 100-yard day today against the Cowboys. With the big finish to surpass the 1,000 scrimmage yard mark, Tracy gave credit to his teammates.
“I want to give thanks to my O-line. They did a great job the whole year. The coaching staff did a great job,” Tracy said after the win. “1,000 yards, man. That’s more than I can ask for, man.”
When Skattebo went down, it was unclear whether the Giants would have enough impact from their running backs, with only Tracy and Singletary on the roster. Tracy pointed out on Sunday that the chance to prove himself again was massive.
“It’s more so just opportunities,” Tracy stated. “I pray for opportunities and then, God willing, I come out here, and it happens. So I just got to take advantage of the opportunities I get when the ball comes my way.”
Interim head coach Mike Kafka acknowledged after the game how significant it was for Tracy to reach that milestone.
“He understands that it’s an 11-man operation and those guys are what make it go,” Kafka told reporters. “But he has to make the plays as well. And he did. He had opportunities today, and he knew he was close to that milestone. That was cool for him to get. I mean, that’s a pretty big, a pretty big deal when he talked about the history of the Giants, and he’s the third player to do that. So that’s pretty cool for him.”
For Tracy to have accomplished this feat in only 15 games proves that he is one of the most underrated running backs in the NFL. His ability to be a dynamic all-purpose running back solidifies a coveted role that many teams seek out when building their running back rooms. Having a player who is elusive in space who can create as a receiver is huge for offenses reaching their potential.
Once Skattebo returns, the Giants’ running back room has an opportunity to become one of the best in the NFL. With Skattebo’s power and Tracy’s finnessee, they can threaten defenses in multiple ways.
