Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver is reportedly ‘considered likely’ to return to the SEC
A former Tennessee Vols wide receiver could be returning to the SEC in 2026.
A former Tennessee Vols wide receiver could be returning to the SEC.
According a report from The Athletic, it’s “considered likely” that former Vols wide receiver Chas Nimrod will land with the Auburn Tigers as a transfer addition.
Nimrod, who spent the first three seasons of his career at Tennessee, transferred to USF ahead of the 2025 season, where he was reunited with former Vols offensive coordinator Alex Golesh (Nimrod and Golesh were together at Tennessee in 2022).
The report from The Athletic notes that USF transfer quarterback Byrum Brown is expected to follow Golesh to Auburn. If the Tigers “close the deal” with Brown, then Nimrod will also likely transfer to Auburn.
“Auburn continues to trend as the favorite to land USF transfer Byrum Brown, the No. 5 player in The Athletic’s QB transfer rankings,” reads the report from The Athletic. “If the Tigers close the deal, Brown is unlikely to come alone. A pair of his former teammates, receivers Keshaun Singleton and Chas Nimrod, are also considered likely to end up following former coach Alex Golesh to Auburn, according to a source briefed on the Tigers’ pursuit of the trio.”
Nimrod caught 23 passes for 466 yards and three touchdowns in seven games at USF in 2025.
The former Vol caught 29 passes for 315 yards and one touchdown during his three seasons at Tennessee.
Auburn and Tennessee will play each other in 2026
If Nimrod transfers to Auburn as expected, he’ll return to Neyland Stadium next fall.
Auburn and Tennessee are scheduled to meet in Knoxville on October 3.
After Nimrod’s true freshman season in 2022, Vols offensive coordinator Joey Halzle called the Arkansas native “explosive”.
“Chas is explosive,” said Halzle before the 2022 Orange Bowl. “He’s explosive, he’s long, he tracks the ball really well. Really excited about his future. He’s a guy that has a chance to be a big-time playmaker for us.”
Nimrod likely would’ve seen some action in a reserve role for the Vols in 2025 with Chris Brazzell, Mike Matthews, and Braylon Staley ahead of him on the depth chart.
A lot of transfer decisions these days don’t work out well (for a variety of reasons). Nimrod, however, is an example of a player that used the transfer portal wisely. He found a great situation, he performed well, and now he could be set to return to the SEC in a key role.
