Berry and Kevin Stefanski were brought together in Cleveland six years ago, and now only one of them remains. For Berry’s future in Cleveland, this head coaching hire has to go right.
The Browns have interviewed several candidates already, including both of their coordinators, Tommy Reed and Jim Schwartz. There’s no denying who the hottest name on the market right now is, and that’s John Harbaugh.
John Harbaugh and the Cleveland Browns could have an interest in coming together
According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, there is “real and mutual interest” between the former Baltimore Ravens head coach and the Browns. The Ravens recently moved on from Harbaugh after 18 seasons.
Other jobs, like the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, and Atlanta Falcons, could excite Harbaugh as well. The Browns offer a strong defense and young offensive pieces in Harold Fannin Jr. and Quinshon Judkins. Cleveland has serious questions along the offensive line and at the most important position: quarterback.
Harbaugh was 180-113 in his 18 seasons with Baltimore and won one Super Bowl. Eighteen seasons is a long time — long enough for things to sour — and that’s what appears to have happened in Baltimore. The veteran head coach specializes in special teams, so it’s possible that the Browns could keep Schwartz in place as defensive coordinator with Harbaugh as the head coach.
This week, things are expected to pick up for Harbaugh, and he’ll begin to take interviews. It’ll be telling for Cleveland’s chances of landing him, depending on whether it can land an interview. If the Browns can interview Harbaugh, they’ll officially have their hat in the ring.
