You couldn’t have scripted a more fitting time for the news of Mike Tomlin stepping down as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers to go public — smack dab in the middle of a rare press conference availability for Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti. These two bitter rivals are even at each other’s necks…even during the NFL offseason news cycle, it seems!

The Ravens and Steelers entered into the offseason with the two longest-tenured head coaches in the league. All of sudden, all at once, these two franchises will go back to the end of the line and start new after nearly two decades apart. And Bisciotti, for his part, has a hilarious proposal as both teams embark on coaching searches.

“Holy sh*t. Wouldn’t that be awesome? (Pause) Only if John (Harbaugh) takes the Pittsburgh job! Wow, wouldn’t that be interesting? I don’t know. That thing (pounds chest) last week maybe disqualified him from my opening after our kicker missed a kick to let them advance. Good for Mike. I don’t know, talk to him (points to GM Eric DeCosta),” said Bisciotti with a laugh during his state of the union address to the Ravens media.

A golden moment captured from one of the fiercest rivalries in the sport. You can’t help but laugh at the timing.

The Harbaugh/Tomlin rivalry appears to be over in one fell swoop, and as funny as the quip is about both coaches trading jobs, it does likely end here. Tomlin is rumored to have television deals on the table, while Harbaugh has spent the past week weighing his options and appears to have suitors ranging from the NFC East (the Giants) to the AFC South (the Titans) and many, many places in between.
