Falcons adding a highly respected NFL legend to new head coach Kevin Stefanksi’s coaching staff
The Falcons’ new coaching staff under Kevin Stefanski is off to a great start, with their latest addition being an NFL legend.
A new era for the Atlanta Falcons has arrived with the news of Kevin Stefanksi becoming the franchises next head coach and the good news doesn’t end there.
Stefanski is already hard at work to build out the rest of his coaching staff. Many believe he will work to keep defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich on in the same role, and sources tell A to Z Sports that Stefanski will be reuniting with legendary NFL offensive line coach Bill Callahan.
Get to know new Falcons offensive line coach Bill Callahan
“Bill Callahan has earned his reputation as an offensive line guru over his lifetime of NFL coaching. He was heralded as a potential savior when he came to Tennessee with his son Brian in 2024, a place that had spent the previous half-decade watching their OL deteriorate to the absolute bottom of the league.
After 23 games of heading up the offensive trenches, though, he understandably left the staff when Brian Callahan was fired. Titans fans will tell you that Callahan is washed up, clearly having lost what golden touch he once possessed. The 2024 unit was ultimately a disappointment on the whole. And 2025 was off to a very rocky start before stabilizing down the stretch after he departed. On the surface, it looks like things got materially better right around when the OL room came under new management.
Perhaps this is the case, that Callahan isn’t the coaching weapon he once was. To me, I see a unit that suffered from key injuries while working to rebuild itself with new players that made his time look worse than it really was. For starters, the Titans OL really started looking promising down the stretch of this past season. Having talked to everybody involved, they changed very little of significance when Bill left. And the new coaches were his guys, continuing to teach Bill’s program. During the past two seasons, LG Peter Skoronski undoubtedly got a lot better. And RT JC Latham, despite what some fans began to panic over last fall, got better as well.
In 2024, Callahan was working with one rookie tackle on one side and a rotating door of slop on the other. His big-ticket free agent center tore his achilles halfway through the year. He took time to adjust back into the swing in 2025, and second-year tackle JC Latham missed the beginning of the year with a hip injury he later indicated he came back too early from.
On top of all of this, the Titans faced one of the hardest schedules of opposing defenses the league has genuinely ever seen in the first two-thirds of 2025. You may look at all of this as convenient excuse-making. To me, it’s a collection of decent reasons for why things went the way that they did. And the Falcons are banking on that being the case.” – Easton Freeze, A to Z Sports Tennessee
Falcons offensive line just got a massive boost with Callahan running the show
The Falcons have a ton of talent on their offensive line with the likes of Jake Matthews and Chris Lindstrom leading the group, with Matthew Bergeron looking like an emerging young player as well.
Adding Callahan is like adding another solid piece to the line, given his vast knowledge and experience building successful NFL offensive lines. He will begin working with the team and, hopefully, take the talented group to a new level altogether for the 2026 season.
They still have a big question at QB to answer this offseason, with Michael Penix Jr. having an up-and-down year in his sophomore season. With Callahan at the helm, they should have a better chance to evaluate Penix or any other options the team considers at the most critical position in football.
