Seahawks’ playoff win over 49ers comes at a huge cost after Mike Macdonald confirms serious injury
Seattle suffered a punch to the gut during blowout win over 49ers.
The final four for the NFL has arrived. Luckily for the Seattle Seahawks, they have managed to stay alive and just dominated the San Francisco 49ers en route to a conference championship opportunity.
With the victory, they also suffered a potentially massive loss for their offense’s potential success going forward, though.
Seahawks lose key playmaker before NFC Championship game due to injury
Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed the suspicion surrounding running back Zach Charbonnet on Monday. The Seahawks running back was forced out of their game versus the 49ers due to injury. It looked serious during the game, and that has been proven true.
Charbonnet has been ruled out for the rest of the season. He will have surgery, according to Macdonald.
“The bummer is Charbs. He’s got a significant knee injury unfortunately. Breaks your heart. He’s going to need surgery. He’s going to have a long road back.” — Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald
According to Adam Schefter, Charbonnet did, in fact, tear his ACL in Seattle’s win over the 49ers. It is a notable blow to the depth and power of the Seahawks offense going forward. Charbonnet could also miss time next season as he recovers from this injury.
Seahawks starting running back Kenneth Walker ran for three touchdowns in the win over the 49ers. Now, his role may be even more that of a bell-cow back, with his top backup on the shelf. It is worth monitoring to see if Seattle adds a running back via free agency or brings Cam Akers up from the practice squad for the NFC Championship.
As of now, Venus Jones Jr. is the only other healthy RB on their active roster. They must have more depth than solely him behind Walker.
