CFP National Championship ends on a sour note following postgame skirmish between Miami Hurricanes star and Indiana Hoosiers
One of the best CFP National Championship games in recent memory ended on a low note.
The Miami Hurricanes and Indiana Hoosiers played in one of the most entertaining games of the CFP era on Monday night. The game came down to the final drive, where the Indiana Hoosiers cemented their place in college football history after forcing Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck into a game-sealing interception.
However, there was another lowlight for the Hurricanes a few moments later. After the game, star running back Mark Fletcher Jr. was caught on camera throwing a punch at Indiana Hoosiers defensive tackle Tyrique Tucker, and it created quite a stir.

While we don’t know what was said to provoke Fletcher, we do have visual evidence of the interaction between him and Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, where you see the two of them choppin’ it up and showing admiration for each other.
No one has ever had a bad word to say about Fletcher, and he figures to be one of the team captains for the Hurricanes in 2026 following his decision to return to Coral Gables. Emotions run high after regular-season losses. Emotions after losing a national championship on your home soil on the last drive of the game, well that’s an all-time emotional moment.
Fletcher was an integral part of the Hurricanes’ offense all season, but certainly in the playoff run. He made significant plays throughout the postseason, and the national championship was no different. Fletcher busted the game open with a 57-yard TD run, and he finished the game with 120 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.
The Miami Hurricanes may have lost the game, but the program has shown itself to be among the best in the sport after the 2025 season. With plenty of resources, one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in America, a head coach with an emotional investment, and the ability to pluck quarterbacks from the transfer portal, it’s safe to say the U is all the way back.

Despite the outcome, Miami proved to the recruits in South Florida that there’s no need to leave home to play for a championship-level program.
