The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to be the team’s new OC after a year with the Chicago Bears as their RB coach.

Many wanted an outside guy to get the job — a guy not in the Andy Reid tree who brings a different perspective and fresh, new ideas. So when Bieniemy was hired, much of the fan base was upset, especially because Chiefs fans wanted former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.

Now, he’s in the AFC West as Jim Harbaugh’s OC on the Los Angeles Chargers, and this could end up being something that the Chiefs regret.

Chiefs could regret not hiring McDaniel as OC

Who is to say that bringing Bieniemy back will all of a sudden fix the offense? This is still Reid’s offense, with him calling the majority of the plays. And we just saw someone come in as an OC in Matt Nagy, who was successful before but is now unsuccessful.

This is obviously the first way they could end up regretting not hiring McDaniel, because what if they did the same thing they’ve always done, just recycle coaches, and the offense still stinks, and the Chargers hire McDaniel, and it’s amazing. That brings us to the next point.

Let’s say McDaniel is amazing as the Chargers’ OC; now the Chiefs have to deal with him twice a year. McDaniel is the type of OC to get the most out of his quarterbacks, too, so let’s say for some reason this brings the most out of Justin Herbert, the Chargers QB who has the potential to be a top-two guy in the league.

All of that would be bad news for the Chiefs, just because Reid liked Bieniemy, and it’s worked for KC before. Only time will tell what’s really going to happen, though.
