Super Bowl LX set to feature one Tennessee Vol on both the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks
One former Vol is currently in position to win a Super Bowl championship on Feb. 8.
Super Bowl LX is finally set, with the New England Patriots set to face off against the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 8 in Santa Clara, California.
And for those hoping a Tennessee Vol will get the chance to taste Super Bowl glory, it appears as though one VFL will get the chance to celebrate a championship, at least at this point in time.
Joshua Dobbs with the Patriots or Velus Jones, Jr. with the Seahawks currently set to win a Super Bowl championship
Dobbs is certainly entrenched in his position as the Patriots’ primary backup quarterback to starter Drake Maye. Third stringer Tommy DeVito has been listed as the emergency third quarterback on the inactives list throughout the season. So, Dobbs position is undoubtedly safe going into the Super Bowl.
However, we saw recently with former Vols DE Darrell Taylor that things can change quickly for practice squad players. Taylor, who was on New England’s practice squad, was the subject of an embarrassing moment last week when head coach Mike Vrabel was asked how he was getting acclimated to the team. Vrabel revealed that they were releasing him that afternoon, but it hadn’t been announced yet. Indeed, moves with practice squad players can happen quickly.
And that’s relevant for Jones, Jr. He’s on the Seattle practice squad, but he was elevated to the active roster on Saturday for the NFC Championship game. However, he was listed as a healthy scratch on Sunday, with Seattle opting for Cam Akers instead.
We’ll see over the next two weeks if Jones, Jr. holds his spot and ends up getting a shot at a Super Bowl ring. If he sticks around, then it’ll be another year of a former Vol enjoying the sport’s greatest feeling.
