The Alabama Crimson Tide entered the transfer portal with one goal in mind: to rebuild the trenches. They achieved that with some huge names like Ty Haywood and Kaden Strayhorn, not to mention some valuable depth.

The question was, however, what difference would it make if things at the top didn’t change? Well, Alabama let former offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic go, and the early favorite for the job has taken the spot.

Alabama expected to hire Adrian Klemm as OL Coach

Given Klemm’s pedigree and resume, I would say this is a slam dunk for the Crimson Tide. Alabama let up the most pressure in the SEC, yet it also finished with the second fewest rushing yards in the conference.

That was with multiple NFL Draft picks and All-American freshman Michael Carroll, by the way. It simply wasn’t good enough, and beyond overhauling the trenches in the portal, Alabama had to make sure the man at the top was the right fit.

Whether it was with the Oregon Ducks or the Pittsburgh Steelers, one thing is certain about the units Klemm coaches: they protect the quarterback. The Ducks had the fewest sacks in the nation in 2022, and the Steelers had the fewest sacks in the NFL in 2020.

The question everyone will ask is what about the run game? That much remains to be seen, as Alabama will have to rely on a reworked stable of backs and almost entirely new group up front.

Luckily for the Tide, they have some time to feel out the process before the meat of Alabama’s in-conference schedule kicks in. It’s a lot of moving parts for Alabama, but the goal is a better unit in 2026, and the Crimson Tide are one step closer.
