Cleveland Browns hold the upper hand with a coach that another NFL team wants due to its head coaching decision
The Browns are soon to hire a head coach and that could have an impact elsewhere in the NFL.
The Cleveland Browns’ search for a new head coach has lasted over three weeks and is expected to end soon.
Cleveland made a trip to Los Angeles on Monday to have a second interview with Los Angeles Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase.
Scheelhaase and Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz have been the hot names for the job, but another candidate is still in the mix.
Todd Monken is waiting to hear about the Browns’ job for his next move
Former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken is the third candidate who is still in the mix. According to Connor Hughes, Monken is expected to accept the job as the New York Giants’ offensive coordinator if he isn’t named the head coach in Cleveland.
Monken was out in Baltimore with Jesse Minter now calling the shots. Following John Harbaugh to New York makes plenty of sense for the veteran offensive line, but that’s only if he doesn’t get his own team to lead.
Cleveland has familiarity with Monken from his time as the offensive coordinator in Cleveland. After that, he won a pair of national championships with the Georgia Bulldogs as the offensive coordinator, then he was with the Ravens.
A decision is expected to be coming down the pipe on who the Browns will be bringing in as the next head coach. Kevin Stefanski is set to have his introductory press conference with the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday at noon, and that goes to show how drawn-out the Browns process has been.
Cleveland is one of four dominoes left to fall this head coaching cycle. The Browns hiring or not hiring Monken is going to have an impact elsewhere because that’s how the NFL often goes.
