The Oklahoma Sooners have yet to land a pledge from a 2028 recruit. However, they could be closing in on that very soon.

According to Rivals’ recruiting insider Sam Spiegelman, Oklahoma is pushing hard for 2028 running back Micah Rhodes, and it seems to be working. The No. 3 overall running back in the 2028 class from Klein (Texas) Oak High School in Houston has visited Norman, Oklahoma, at least six times. But recently, it was Sooners running back coach DeMarco Murray who visited Rhodes in Houston. It’s safe to say Murray continues to leave a lasting impression on the young RB.

Rhodes loves OU and what Murray brings

“DeMarco was one of the first coaches I talked to. The bond has always been solid and genuine. I call DeMarco when I can, and we talk about football and life and steps on how to be a better player and young man,” Rhodes told Rivals. “Having a great coach who desires to develop me is at the top of my list of importance.

“What excites me about playing for Coach Murray is that he has the NFL experience and played RB at the NFL level. It would be amazing to learn and understand how to be an NFL back while working in college. He has just been consistently talking to my dad and me about the culture of Oklahoma — how he would love to use my skill-set and help me improve my game from things he saw from my past games or even at camp working out with him.”

In addition to Murray’s recruitment, Oklahoma has submitted an offer to just four running backs in the 2028 class so far. Rhodes is rated the best of the four, with the others being four-star Zachary Belyeu, three-star Cartae Ligon, and Corey Hinton Jr., who’s not currently listed with any stars on On3’s website. On3 does give OU a 20% chance to land Belyeu, though, after the Georgia Bulldogs’ 40% chance.

Expanding on Oklahoma’s recruiting landscape, Rhodes is the No. 4 player in Texas and the No. 42 player nationally. Of course, he’s in the 2028 class, which is still some time away. These rankings can change drastically. However, it’s clear that Oklahoma loves Rhodes. In the Sooners’ 2027 class, they currently have two running backs committed in Keldrid Ben and Jaxsen Stokes. They are bringing in two running backs in their 2026 class in Jonathan Hatton Jr. and DeZephen Walker.

Given all this, it would be smart to add Rhodes and one more RB in the 2028 class.
