Former Tennessee Vols defensive back Boo Carter makes strong statement about how long he plans to stay at Colorado
Former Tennessee Vols defensive back Boo Carter transferred to Colorado after the 2025 season.
Former Tennessee Vols defensive back Boo Carter officially joined the Colorado Buffaloes this month as a transfer portal addition.
Carter, a former four-star recruit from Chattanooga, spent the first two seasons of his career at Tennessee.
The dynamic athlete earned SEC All-Freshman honors in 2024.
Carter was dismissed from Tennessee’s football team in November after he reportedly failed to show up for the Vols’ homecoming game against New Mexico State. Carter was already on thin ice with the Vols after he reportedly missed several team activities last summer.
Boo Carter comments on how long he plans to stay at Colorado
Carter, who showed interest in Colorado as a high school recruit, isn’t planning on sticking around in Boulder for long.
The former Vol said this week he hopes to be one-and-done at Colorado and then declare for the 2027 NFL Draft.
“This is [my] third year,” said Carter. “I mean, I played freshman year. New year. Now, you know, [it’s] my third year. I’m trying to be one-and-done. I need to go to the league.”
Carter certainly has the talent to play in the NFL, but he’ll need to leave the off-the-field issues behind (what’s done is done; he can still maximize his talent and become a key contributor).
Plans, however, can change. There’s no guarantee that Carter will be in a position to declare for the draft after the 2026 season.
Former Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava, for example, said last summer after transferring to UCLA that he planned to be one-and-done with the Bruins before heading to the NFL.
Iamaleava, though, is returning to UCLA in 2026 after a trying year (due to coaching changes, etc) with the Bruins.
Let’s see how 2026 goes for Carter before we start talking about where he may be drafted in 2027.
