The Cleveland Browns’ hiring of Todd Monken makes finding the quarterback to right the ship all that much more important.

Monken is an offensive-minded head coach who has had tons of success working with quarterbacks at both the pro and college levels. Cleveland had two rookies handle the majority of their games in 2025, but neither showed they’re a lock to be the future.

Browns named a top landing spot for a notable free agent quarterback

Cleveland should be in the market for a veteran quarterback to come in and compete. Don’t be surprised if it’s an open competition in Cleveland between Sanders, Gabriel, Deshaun Watson, and a free agent quarterback. I could see the Browns rolling through training camp with four quarterbacks until they have to let one go.

A to Z Sports Green Bay’s Wendell Ferreira has named the Browns as one potential landing spot for Packers QB Malik Willis, who is set to be a free agent.

Willis reshaped his picture the last two seasons as the backup to Jordan Love. The former Tennessee Titans third-round pick showed great growth under Matt LaFleur and looked the part in the three starts he had to make due to injury. Willis’ time with LaFleur looks like a real game-changer for his career.

Back in December, Willis was 18-of-21 for 288 passing yards and a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens. That was a firsthand view for the Browns’ new head coach on what Willis is able to do. Even though the Packers lost that game, it wasn’t because of Willis.

Cleveland winning the final two games of the season knocked them out of being able to land Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza. There looks to be a large drop off after Mendoza, so the Browns may be better served running with one of their young guys over bringing in another rookie.

Willis being thrown into the picture would give the Browns a player who can come in and compete — and possibly even win the job.

Monken’s ability to draw up an offense with a mobile quarterback is legit, and all the more reason the Browns should be in on Willis.
