Lane Kiffin predictably reacts to the latest big news about Tennessee Vols QB Joey Aguilar
Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar is attempting to gain another season of eligibility.
Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar’s fight to gain another season of eligibility took a big step forward last Friday.
According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, Aguilar filed a lawsuit against the NCAA in Knoxville last Friday in an effort to expedite a decision on whether he’ll be deemed eligible for the 2026 season.
The lawsuit states that Aguilar, who will turn 25 in June, has a spot on Tennessee’s football team in 2026 if he’s granted an another season of eligibility. It also notes that he’d earn around $2 million if he plays for the Vols next season.
Aguilar attended City College of San Francisco for two seasons, but he didn’t play after redshirting in 2019 (his 2020 season was canceled due to COVID). The California native played two seasons at Diablo Valley Community College (2021 and 2022) before transferring to Appalachian State for two seasons (2023 and 2024). Aguilar has played just three seasons of NCAA football (including his 2025 season at Tennessee).
