The Tennessee Vols have had an exodus of talent in each of the last two MLB drafts. Between the roster departures for the pros and the new players coming and going in the transfer portal, it can be tough to have a good idea of what to expect from one year to the next — or who could be the breakout players on the roster.

Well, if you believe MLB scouts, the Vols have a duo on the roster this year that bear keeping a close eye on — RHP Tegan Kuhns and OF/RHP Blaine Brown.

Baseball America put out their 2026 preseason All-American teams that are based on voting from MLB scouts, and both men found themselves on the second team.

Tennessee RHP Tegan Kuhns and OF/RHP Blaine Brown named Baseball American second-team All-Americans

Kuhns was the team’s Sunday opener in 2025 as a freshman, with Liam Doyle and Marcus Phillips starting Fridays and Saturdays, respectively. Kuhns appeared in 15 games last season with 10 starts, posting a 2-4 record with a 5.40 ERA in 36.2 innings pitched. He had a 40/16 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He figures to be penciled into one of the weekend rotation spots for Josh Elander.

Brown came to Tennessee after the 2025 season from Rice as a two-way player, but it seems most likely he’ll end up in the outfield for Elander. He had a tremendous freshman season at the plate for Rice in 2025, earning all-conference honors as a designated hitter and was a unanimous All-Freshman team member. He led Rice in almost every major batting category, including batting average (.292), slugging percentage (.493), hits (61), RBI (38), doubles (12), home runs (10), and total bases (103).

Both men should be counted on as key members of the team in 2026 and be players for Vol fans to watch and get excited about this year. Because the talent scouts certainly will have their eyes on them.
