David Blough receives high praise from top NFL player Commanders fans know all too well
Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez had high praise for his brother-in-law, David Blough, when asked about his promotion to offensive coordinator.
The Washington Commanders needed to make drastic changes after a down season in 2025, and it started with the staff.
Head coach Dan Quinn decided to mutually part ways with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, and they quickly promoted QB coach David Blough as the new play caller. It was a swift and controversial move for Washington, but one that has aged well with a lot of high praise recently.
The most recent person to speak highly of Blough is actually about to play in the Super Bowl, and he should’ve been with the Commanders.
Christian Gonzalez knows David Blough is ready to be an offensive coordinator
Everybody knows the NFL is about connections and ties throughout the league, but there are also family ties as well. New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez has a close connection to Blough as his brother-in-law, as Blough is married to his sister, Melissa Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was asked about Blough at the Super Bowl media day before the big game, and he had nothing but strong praise for the Commanders’ new offensive coordinator.
“Yeah, I think it’s awesome. So excited for him. To us, to people who know him, it’s no surprise. He’s a brilliant football mind. Knows so much about ball. I’m fortunate to know him since they were together in high school, so I got to see a lot of it. And, I mean, it’s been really cool. I think he’s gonna do great. He’s got weapons out there, and I’m excited for him, for his new journey, and my sister and their family, and just they get to put it together and enjoy it, and I’m happy for him.”
David Blough is getting his first shot as an offensive coordinator
Blough was just the assistant QB coach just months ago, then quickly went to QB coach, and now the Commanders’ offensive coordinator. This is the first time Blough has ever run his own offense or called plays before, but a lot of people have faith in his abilities. Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson called him one of the young rising coaches in the league who will be a head coach before we know it.
Before any of that happens, though, Blough needs to resurrect the Commanders’ offense and help get Jayden Daniels back on track in a new system with a full offseason and a young staff under him as well.
