Voter takes a laughable stance on Cowboys’ Dak Prescott in NFL Honors voting
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback was up for Comeback Player of the Year at the NFL Honors.
Going into the NFL Honors on Thursday night, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was considered a longshot to win the award for Comeback Player of the Year. San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was a first-team All-Pro and a juggernaut weapon that kept his team in the running despite it missing starting quarterback Brock Purdy for an extended period of time.
So for Prescott to not walk away with the award shouldn’t be seen as a slight to him, nor a lack of disrespect. But one decision from an annonymous voter makes me wonder what are we even doing here?
AP voter opts for Rivers over Prescott
According to multiple reports, Prescott was third in first-place votes for Comeback Player of the Year. He was second to the Detroit Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson, which is very understandable. Hutchinson’s injury was a brutal one in 2024 and him coming back to put together a high-end season like he did is worthy of applause.
- RB Christian McCaffrey, 31 first place votes
- DE Aidan Hutchinson, 9 first place votes
- QB Dak Prescott, 6 first place votes
- QB Trevor Lawrence, 2 first place votes
- WR Chris Olave, 1 first place vote
- QB Philip Rivers, 1 first place vote
What is not understandable, however, is that one voter used his or hers first-place vote on Philip Rivers.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I was impressed with Rivers coming back to play at 44 years old and look the way that he did. But at the end of the day, he wasn’t coming back from an injury and he threw *checks notes* 92 pass attempts.
Dak Prescott was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this year. He led the league in completions, and was Top 5 in passing yards, quarterback rating, and passing touchdowns. He helped spark George Pickens’ best season in the NFL yet and kept the Cowboys alive for longer than he had any right doing with the terrible defense Dallas was dragging along.
But because Rivers decided to play a few more games he gets a first-place vote over Dak?
Listen, I know I’m yelling at the clouds here but I have to say, it sure feels like Prescott’s career is worthy of much more respect than it gets. And I can’t help but thinking Rivers getting a first-place vote for Comeback Player of the Year is another example of it.
