Super Bowl LX may have had a different outcome had Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix not suffered a broken ankle in the win over the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Obviously, we have no idea how the AFC Championship game would’ve played out against the New England Patriots had Nix played. Nor do we know how the Super Bowl would’ve gone if the Broncos had taken down the Patriots with a healthy Nix.

But there’s no denying that Denver had a team capable of winning the Super Bowl, which is why the Broncos are already viewed as one of the favorites to reach the big game next season.

A big offseason could make Denver the favorite to win it all in 2026.

And that’s why a prediction that CBS Sports made for the Broncos this week should scare the rest of the NFL.

CBS Sports predicts the Broncos will trade for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens

CBS Sports made several “bold predictions” this week for the NFL offseason, and they have the Broncos making a blockbuster trade for Dallas Cowboys superstar wide receiver George Pickens.

“He’s (Pickens) due for a massive contract this offseason as one of the top free agents available,” wrote CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani. “Jerry Jones and Co. didn’t learn from the Micah Parsons saga, as we predict another dramatic standoff is in store for Dallas this offseason. Pickens will be hit with the franchise tag, as fans lament the reported lack of communication between the two camps. Pickens requests a trade as the public spectacle intensifies. That’s when the Broncos swoop in and give the Cowboys a second-round pick for the wideout, then sign Pickens to a multi-year extension that pays him an average of $31 million per year. Bo Nix needs upgraded weaponry if the Broncos want to reach that next level.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently reported that Dallas is expected to use the franchise tag on Pickens.

If Dallas uses the franchise tag on Pickens, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll keep the coveted wide receiver. It simply ensures that if the Cowboys aren’t able to sign Pickens to an extension, then they can trade him and at least get some compensation in return. We saw a similar situation play out with wide receiver Davante Adams and the Green Bay Packers in 2022 when he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.

This scenario with Pickens and Denver, however, is completely dependent on Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. And Jones, as we all know, can be unpredictable when it comes to signing star players.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Pickens stick around in Dallas on a longterm deal, but it also wouldn’t be a surprise to see the relationship between the star wide receiver and the Cowboys go south this offseason. If that happens, then Denver should be ready to swoop in with an offer — Pickens is an elite playmaker who could instantly make the Broncos the league-wide favorite to win it all next season.
