Oklahoma Sooners get one step closer to adding another game-changing defensive prospect to an all-time recruiting class
The Oklahoma Sooners are in the hunt for another elite defender to further a historic recruiting class.
The Oklahoma Sooners are building out one of their greatest recruiting class in program history with the 2027 class. It already sits first in 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, and there are still several months before the Early Signing Period begins, meaning the runway for the Sooners to finish with a historic class is already set.
They took a step forward in adding another elite prospect to their outstanding haul. On Friday, elite four-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou narrowed down his top schools, and the Sooners made the cut.
Oklahoma Sooners could lay foundation of the future with elite class
The Sooners have made it abundantly clear that they view the 2027 class as their “all-in” moment to build the foundation of their future in the SEC. They’ve already landed standouts at virtually every position but quarterback, and it’s evident they are gearing up to build around quarterback Bowe Bentley and springboard the next chapter of their SEC journey.
In Fakatou’s case, Oklahoma is further proving their commitment to building out an elite defensive line to continue their dominant defensive efforts in the SEC. Since joining, the Sooners have had the best defensive line in the conference, led by an outstanding defensive tackle group. Oklahoma already has a pair of linemen committed in Elija Harmon and Deven Robertson, but they have to retool the shape of the room once David Stone (and perhaps Jayden Jackson) depart for the NFL after next season.
Fakatou would be a strong complementary piece up front to Harmon and Robertson. He’s already 6-7, 295 pounds after moving up a grade with some strong movement skills to be a disruptive pass rusher up front right away. Pairing that with the more powerful, rugged styles of Harmon and Robertson would be a dynamite way to kickstart the rebuild on the defensive line.
Fatakou will be on campus with the Sooners on March 27, but there are a whole stable of suitors after him, including all of the heavy hitters of college football.
Oklahoma will have to fight off the likes of Ohio State, Georgia, Penn State, Oregon, Miami, Texas, Michigan, and Notre Dame if they want to secure Fatakou’s commitment.
