Mooney quarterback Davin Davidson (#4) scrambles as he looks for an open receiver. Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School hosted Cocoa High School for the Class 2A state semi-final football game Friday evening, Dec. 5, 2025. Mooney won the game 40-0.

When Notre Dame quarterback signee Teddy Jarrard opted to reclassify to the 2026 recruiting class, it opened up an opportunity for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish to bring in another talented signal caller. Vero Beach (Fla.) quarterback Wonderful “Champ” Monds IV quickly became a target to know, and will continue to be for Notre Dame. It does appear, however, that the team is also keeping its eyes closely on other talented options in the class, as well.

On Monday, Notre Dame extended the 2027 quarterback board, offering two more talented signal callers. That includes Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney quarterback Davin Davidson, one of the bigger risers in the class this offseason. He has seen increased attention over the last few months.

Davidson played in 2025 with Notre Dame 2026 defensive tackle signee Elijah Golden. His head coach, Jared Clark, was also a former player for the Fighting Irish. It will be interesting to see just how hard Notre Dame pushes for Davidson, a player that they have been doing some work on for some time now.

Davin Davidson’s recruiting background

Davidson is a bit of a strange case when it comes to his recruiting rankings right now. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Davidson currently sits as a three-star, the No. 444 overall player, the No. 31 quarterback, and the No. 48 player from the state of Florida for the 2027 recruiting class. Rivals and ESPN have not rated the talented signal caller yet.

Despite that odd recruiting rankings profile, there is a long list of impressive programs that have been pursuing Davidson recently. Some of his top offers currently include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Florida State, Iowa, Auburn, Louisville, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, NC State, Virginia Tech, UNC, Cal, Duke, and Northwestern, among others.

As a junior in 2025, Davidson put together a tremendous season while leading Cardinal Mooney to a 14-1 overall record and a Florida 2A State championship. In those 15 games, the 6-6.5, 215-pound signal caller managed to throw for 2,360 yards and 23 touchdowns. Davidson also added three scores on the ground, while completing over 64 percent of his passes and throwing just six interceptions. While raw in some ways, Davidson has a lot of raw tools to get excited about.

The other signal caller offered was 2027 Salt Lake City (Utah) West quarterback Kamden Lopati, who is committed to Illinois currently. Despite that pledge to the Illini, several top programs have been pursuing Lopati this offseason. Add Notre Dame to that list.

There has been some buzz for Notre Dame and Lopati even before the offer was extended. It’s believed that the Irish will be a top contender for him if they push hard. The next several weeks will be vital to potentially get this flip done.

Kamden Lopati’s recruiting background

The recruiting rankings are a bit all over the place for Lopati right now – some outlets rank him as a four-star and others as a three-star player. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Lopati sits as a four-star, the No. 149 overall player, the No. 12 quarterback, and the No. 3 player from the state of Utah for the 2027 recruiting class. If the interest over the last few weeks is any indication, those rankings should continue to trend upward.

While his rankings are all over the place, the Utah native boasts an impressive offer list so far. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Oregon, Tennessee, Arizona State, Utah, Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Boston College, Houston, Illinois, Arkansas, Cal, Duke, Stanford, and Purdue, among others. More and more schools are continuing to show a lot of interest in the talented passer.

As a junior in 2025, Lopati put together a tremendous season. The 6-3, 215-pound passer managed to throw for 2,671 yards and 34 touchdowns, completing over 64 percent of his passes and throwing just eight interceptions. Lopati also ran for another 730 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground, averaging a stellar 8.1 yards per carry. That part of his game has been extremely underrated.
