Potential doomsday scenario strikes for Georgia baseball after strong start to season
They’re hoping for the best news regarding a star player.
The baseball season around the SEC is underway. For the Georgia Bulldogs, expectations are pretty high yet again for Wes Johnson’s club. They are expected to boast one of the best offenses in the conference, and the pitching staff has some exciting upside.
Kenny Ishikawa has been playing a role for both of those units, and his impact is crystal clear through just four games.
UGA baseball star Kenny Ishikawa seen on crutches after hit by pitch
The two-way stud was removed from the game in the top of the third inning after he was hit by a pitch on the right foot. Ishikawa was placed in a protective boot and then was seen postgame on crutches as well. Ishikawa transferred in from Seattle University this offseason.
The potential All-SEC performer was the projected starter for the team’s second game this weekend, but his status is now up in the air. The Bulldogs won’t rush him back.
“Ishikawa was a highly touted transfer from Seattle, as he led the Redhawks in batting average (.318), OPS (.982) and slugging percentage (.562) last season. The sophomore started 51 games and set a program record with 23 doubles as a two-way standout for Seattle, making him a hot commodity in the portal.” — Saturday Down South
Wes Johnson was hoping for the best after the midweek clash. The team is set to get an update on Ishikawa on Thursday.
“Yeah, we just got him in a boot. We’ll go get him checked out again a little further in the morning. You just do that kind of stuff,” Johnson detailed. “You do some preliminary stuff, and then you take precautions. And that’s just kind of where we’re at with Kenny. We should know a little more tomorrow.”
This will be the first big domino to fall for Georgia on the diamond this season. If Ishikawa has to miss time, they will need to replace him both in the starting rotation and the batting lineup.
