Sooners’ potential future playmakers just gave OU a unique glimpse at how elite an athlete Oklahoma would be getting
The Sooners love both players.
There’s no secret that the Oklahoma Sooners really love Mustang, Oklahoma, cornerback Gabriel Osborne, who’s as athletic as they come. He’s a four-star who has plenty of time to become a five-star by this time next season.
The Sooners have been pursuing Gabriel Osborne, the No. 11 cornerback in the 2027 class and the No. 3 player in Oklahoma, for some time. Osborne is also a standout basketball player at Mustang High School, showcasing his versatility as a dual-sport athlete. Rivals projects Oklahoma to land him, but Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Ohio State are also strong contenders. Recently, Osborne demonstrated his athleticism on the basketball court, giving a preview of his multi-sport talent.
Mustang’s boys’ basketball team was taking on Edmond Memorial, where we saw Osborne get the ball on a fast break and absolutely throw it down on top of a defender. The dunk was so ferocious that he fell on the ground after the play. The dunk put Mustang up 39-22 late in the third quarter, and the Broncos went on to win the game.
But Osborne isn’t the only recruit or player Oklahoma likes who can play basketball.
Sooners’ 2026 WR Zizi Okwufulueze had some impressive basketball plays
Okwufulueze, who signed with the Sooners in 2026, is a tall, 6’4 receiver that’s lanky and athletic as can be. Okwufulueze will be with the Sooners in 2026 as a wide receiver and is part of an elite WR class the Sooners are bringing in. They love the local, in-state kid, and everyone saw what he did for Rejoice Christian in Owasso, Oklahoma, recently.
In addition to reaching the 1,000-point club in high school basketball, Okwufulueze made two alley-oop dunks and impressive defensive plays, such as a block, for Rejoice Christian. His ability to excel in both football and basketball demonstrates the athleticism and air-time he brings to the field and the court.
There isn’t a sport better to play alongside football than basketball, given the athleticism and coordination it requires. If you can hoop and play football, you’re an uber athlete who brings a rare combination of skills to the field.
