The Tennessee Vols left Nashville with a huge road win over the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday afternoon.

Tennessee outscored Vanderbilt 38-30 in the second half on their way to a 69-65 win.

The Vols earned the win despite an off shooting night from true freshman forward Nate Ament, who scored just 13 points on 3-of-13 shooting from the field (Ament was 6-for-6 from the free throw line).

Nate Ament hit the biggest shot of the game for the Tennessee Vols

Ament wasn’t at his best against Vanderbilt, but he still managed to hit the biggest shot of the game.

With the Volunteers trailing by a point with under a minute to play, Ament hit a tough turnaround jumper to give Tennessee the lead.

The Commodores didn’t score the rest of the game.

After the game, Vanderbilt head coach Mark Byington praised Ament for hitting a tough shot while also passive-aggressively suggesting he traveled.

“I mean, Nate Ament hit a shot that was against perfect defense,” said Byington. “And, you know, there might have been some shuffling of feet, or whatever else, then you see what happened there. But he still made the shot. [We] did everything right, and sometimes you do things right and you still don’t get the right result.”

Ament definitely appeared to shuffle his feet, but it also looked like he was fouled twice. Either way, it was an incredible shot by Ament, a player that will almost certainly be a lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft in just a few months.

As for Byington’s comments, I think we’ve all been there after a game. Calls that you think didn’t go your way always sting a little more when they come in a loss.
